What is the motive for breathing?
Remembering this question allows me to become aware that
breath has no motive and requires no effort. To see that I have no motive, no desire to breathe, is to cease taking my breath. I can allow each breath to be given.
Observe
the givenness of a breath. Receive the grace of this breath, then offer it back: this is the purest form of prayer.
As often, throughout the day, as I become aware of a given breath, I am in the state of grace. I am in the deepest and most effortless meditation.
